The monument is located at the junction of Yanjiang Road and Liu23 Road, on the east side of Shamian. The Shakey Massacre occurred on June 23, 1925, when the British and French troops shot and killed the Chinese people in the Shamian Concession. In 1926, the then Guangdong Revolutionary Government erected a stone tablet engraved with "Don't forget this day" on the east side of Renmin Bridge and on the banks of the Pearl River. The current monument was built in 2001 and was rebuilt according to the original appearance of the monument built in 1926.
