My husband and I were visiting friends in Hallein from Australia when we found ourselves with an evening free for dinner. So happy we did- Hassl Restaurant is an absolute gem! Modern fit-out with clean lines and great lighting. Menu is in German, but the waitress was happy to explain the dishes in English. My husband is vegetarian, but we both had 3 courses of local, seasonal fare that were out of this world. Fantastic modern interpretation of classic flavors. After a few weeks of rather serious and bland Austrian pub food, it was so refreshing to find a restaurant with balance. Five Stars!
We've visited Hassl twice already. The first time was the week they opened, and now we returned right before Christmas. On our first visit I had spinach dumplings that were delicious. They were soft and I could really taste the spinach. For dessert I had a chocolate mousse and chocolate cake combo that was wonderful, although I would call the mousse a ganache. On our Christmas visit I had trout fillet with cucumber salad and a warm chocolate cake. The trout was moist and soft on the inside with crisp skin and I loved the cucumber salad. The chocolate cake was a bit dry but it had great flavor. I really like the atmosphere at Hassl. It's a small place with personal touches in decorating. It would be nice if the waitresses could smile a little more. If you're there, try the home-made iced tea.
