Historical Site
The Wuxi Forest of Steles lies to the south of the county town of Qiyang, and is a large outdoor forest of steles in Southern China. In the year 764 AD, Yuan Jie wrote down "an Ode to the Restoration of the Tang" in order to record and narrate the An Lushan Rebellion. It was later inscribed onto the cliffs by the Tang Dynasty calligrapher Yan Zhenqing. Yuan's prose and Yan's characters were added to the Tiangong Cliff to form the forest of stele's "Three Wonders of Cliff Carving". This is also a high point of the forest of steles as a whole. Scholars of successive dynasties came here to recite poetry and write prose, inscribed onto the steles. There are more than 400 surviving instances of poetic carvings by famous historical figures, including four engraved stones left here by a Vietnamese envoy passing through here during the Qing Dynasty.
