Huainan is located in the north-central part of Anhui Province on the banks of the Huaihe River in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River Delta. Huainan has both a long history and profound cultural heritage. During the Western Han Dynasty, the king of Huainan, Liu An, compiled the Huainanzi, known as the ancient Chinese encyclopedia. He also invented tofu. The famous Battle of Fei River—where a decisive defeat happened at the hands of a small force—took place here. Huainan is also the host city for the China Tofu Culture Festival and other activities that take place to promote local tofu culture.

Shouxian County (ancient city) is located in Lu'an City. Outside the ancient city is a city wall in the Song Dynasty that remains intact, having been renovated over time. The ancient city was not carefully planned. Tourists can pay a visit to a mosque next to the South Gate with Chinese-style buildings. People can also visit Shouxian County Museum on the West Street, which displays a number of cultural relics from the Chu State. There is a Chinese-style building on East Gate that is in fact a Christian church. The northern ancient city wall lights up in the evening, helping people to watch the night scenes.
