I met a fellow Couch Surfer at the Sabirtasi Restaurant. I was taken there to be treated with some authentic Turkish cuisine. While I was excited, I was pretty unprepared to climb 7 storeys to reach the restaurant. It was nice quaint place with a hospitable staff. I was told that Sabirtasi means Patience, and those who have the patience to reach up here get to enjoy the delicious meals and hospitality. That was indeed what followed. I was served with Su (Water) and Ayran (Buttermilk) to start with. Followed by the signature dish- Icli Kofte (Meat dumplings with salad). It was similar to the Indian dish called Kofta but bigger and heavier with all the meat stuffing. The spices were well cooked and subtle on the taste buds. Cig Borek, another traditional Turkish dish which looked like a stuffed pizza but was more like meat pastry. Another delicacy that leaves tingling flavors in your mouth. Since it was quite a heavy meal for 2 people, we got treated to some Turkish Tea to sum up the meal. Absolutely loved the ambiance, service and quality and taste of food. Only the preparation time was rather long. But well worth the wait! Recommended for those who wish to try the traditional Turkish cuisine.
