Step to the basement, the simple furnishings of space and light concept are like a regular canteen, a little shabby...Don't be fooled: You enter the gourmet paradise and the best fish I have ever eaten! Helpful, good executives, even crowded (usually, especially on weekends). The main locals, not to mention much good food will give you an unforgettable make this visit. Try grilling black sea anchovies, or hamsi...> I will be back!
It is not so luxurious or meyhane with special decoration but the atmosphere is really good. People sitting with friends, eating, super delicious food, drinking wine and talking. The portion is not that big, but the price is cheap. You can try to match more. My favorites are Creetan Puree (Girit Ezmesi), Barbecued Fish Cakes (Balik Koftesi) and Anchevi (hamsi SIS). Our waiter is really nice. If you go there by the street name, it is difficult to find it. I found Mei Ke on Istiklal Street and Meyhane is an Asian restaurant across the street from M.A.C. Meyhane is on the right.
This place can be easily missed because it is located underground and in a corner just Istiklal Avenue. If you want to taste some authentic Turkish food, but the quality and taste are good, this is a place to go! We tried several kinds of meze, and our favorites were blue cheese joghurt shrimp, fish mustard, "fish ravioli" to die! They are not Italian-style ravioli like Italians, but the cube shape of small fish balls covered in soft yogurt! We also tried the main cod grilled with white cheese, but it was more like cheese than normal tofu cheese and salad.
This is a small gem of a place, hidden in the street behind the entrance below a street. We went for a weekend and the location was buzzing. The angler fish grilled lamb is the most delicious match I have ever had. It is so fresh, you can taste the fish in the sea. The wine is first-rate and the service is attentive. We also have chocolate souffle desert which is excellent. This is the best meal we have had in Istanbul and it is not too expensive. come back next time.
This review is completely justified because my boyfriend and I traveled to Istanbul back in 2011 and after reading the review of Istanbul January 2010 edition of Cukur Meyhane, we decided to find this place. That is the most difficult part. We walked through it several times without noticing. But once in, everything is excellent and the service is very friendly. The place is small and there are people everywhere, but you can say that everything is fresh. We had a great time and wanted to have dinner in Istanbul for the last time before going home. We went in to find a crowded restaurant, and the table at the door gave us two seats. This older gentleman seems to have his own place, or is a regular customer-because of language barriers, he has not been found. However, we had an amazing dining experience, and each dish was better than the previous one. We also liked the local crowd, including a girl celebrating her birthday... After happy birthday, we gave her a birthday cake. This is the best way to complete a week holiday in Istanbul. We highly recommend it!
