The Fortress of Jiayuguan
Getting There - 1hr by train from Zhangye
Attractions - Jiayuguan Pass
Jiayuguan Pass used to be the starting point of the ancient Great Wall built during Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644). We spent in Jiayuguan just couple of hours on the way from Zhangye to Dunhuang. We had about 5 hours transit between our trains so we jumped on the Didi and went directly to the Jiayuguan Pass. The ticket costs 80yuan and it allows you to visit both the Pass and the part of the Great Wall. In fact the distance from there to the Great Wall is about 15km, so you can easily visit both attractions in one day.
It was very windy and overcast when we arrived, but the scenery was just incredible. I was impressed by height of walls in the fortress, you can also walk up the wall and enjoy the view of Gobi desert from there.

"The world's first Xiongguan" Jiayuguan, wind and rain for six hundred years
Jiayuguan is the starting point of the west end of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty, known as "Chinese and foreign defense", "Hexi first mouth". After six hundred years, the current Jiayuguan is still solid and golden, and the Megatron is square, with strict barriers and integration with the Great Wall. According to the end of the western end of the Great Wall, the male is backed by the rolling Qilian Mountains and stands on the top of Jiayu Mountain.
In the first place, Jiayuguan, all eyes are all khaki, the whole Guancheng is like the pile of loess, but it is the most intact one in the Great Wall.
Approaching Jiayuguan, the gates of the towers are engraved with the three characters "Jiayuguan". A three-storey three-five-family building is built on the gate. His Majesty has Zuo Zongtangs inscription The First Xiongguan in the World. The layout of the building is exquisite and powerful. It echoes with the the worlds first customs Shanhaiguan, which is far away from the distance. Standing on the imposing Jiayuguan City Tower, you can see the Gobi Desert, the mountains and the mountains in the north and the south. The snow on the top of the mountain is clearly visible. Qilian Snow Mountain is vast and vast. For hundreds of years, it has been like a silent guardian, and spent more than 600 years with Jiayuguan.
I saw a piece of grass in front of Jiayuguan, camels and horses moving slowly, and I heard the crisp camel ringing on the ancient Silk Road.
Jiayuguan is like a history-old man who has experienced vicissitudes of life. He is standing between Montenegro and Qilian Mountain in the face of hunting hurricanes. He watches the loneliness of the desert and tells the people who have been here for centuries. In the long years, singing old songs.
Shirley Zhu.
YOYO takes you to the source of freehand brushwork paintings - the murals of Jiayuguan and Yumen Pass
There's a sense of dissonance with the telescope and cannon in the 4th photo with YOYO's sticker, right?
The sites of Jiayuguan and Yumen Pass in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu.
On the Gobi desert north of Jiayuguan in Jiuquan, Gansu, there are thousands of ancient tombs, formed over several centuries.
From the more than ten tombs excavated so far, they were buried during the Cao Wei, Western Jin, and Five Liang periods, that is, from the early third century to the mid-fifth century.
Murals are a common feature in these tombs.
The painted works in Tomb No. 5 are worth appreciating.
The Wei and Jin mural tombs in Jiayuguan reflect the social reality of the time, which is very rare.
Generally, tomb murals depict the heavens, the earth, and the human realm. The so-called heavenly and earthly realms, which are mostly fictional stories, are few in number here, only seen in some shaped bricks.
The human realm mainly depicts life in the human world, and the images of loyalty, filial piety, chastity, and sages that are common in Han dynasty brick paintings are basically absent here.
What is displayed here is the social reality of the tomb owner's era, with a strong sense of the times.
The murals are created with one brick at a time, with casual and free lines, completed in a single stroke, and the use of color is also extremely simple and unadorned.
From this, one can glimpse the source of Chinese freehand ink painting.

⭐️ Attraction - Great Wall of China 🇨🇳
This is my 3rd time seeing the Great Wall at different locations and this is my favorite one. Unlike Mutianyu in Beijing, this location is much quieter. Of course it isn’t as big, but it’s a great place to visit.
⏰ Recommended time - The stairs are quite steep and uneven so it might take you about 1.5 hours or so.
🥤 Food and drinks - Get a bottle of water/snacks before you start climbing the stairs.

First Time at the Great Wall
Who says you have to go to Beijing if you want to see the Great Wall of China?
Head over to Jiayuguan in Gansu province to visit the western end of the Great Wall!
It is a peaceful experience with much fewer tourists than you’ll find in Beijing 😌
I would say that the best time to visit is in the early morning when you can catch the tail end of the sunrise 🌅
Plus you will be able to avoid the hottest part of the day…believe me when I tell you you’ll work up a sweat after climbing all those stairs 🥵
I was lucky enough to have perfectly clear skies on my trip which made it all that more breathtaking
Check out the last photo - not a cloud in sight!

Jiayuguan
Coming to Jiayuguan, one would think of seeing the last pass of the magnificent Great Wall of our motherland. However, there are three attractions in Jiayuguan, one is the first pier of the Great Wall, one is the overhanging Great Wall, and the other is the main Jiayuguan city. These three attractions use a joint ticket, which can be used once purchased.
We found a taxi locally and agreed to visit these three attractions for 100 yuan. The taxi driver introduced us to the general situation of the three attractions along the way, which deepened our understanding based on the homework we had done.
The first stop is the first pier of the Great Wall. This place is known as the starting point of the Great Wall. In fact, at the Old Dragon Head of Shanhaiguan, there is also such a claim. This is not important, what is important is that this is indeed the starting or ending point of the Great Wall. Whether it's the first pier or the overhanging Great Wall behind, they are all built with earth. After thousands of years of wind, frost, rain and snow, the earth Great Wall is as hard as a rock. There is a river at the first pier, which winds through the deep ravine. It originates from the Qilian Mountains and Heishan, according to the Xiongnu language, it is called "Taolai River". Although the riverbed is dry and the water flow has become a stream, it also shows the beauty of nature in the cliffs on both sides.
The overhanging Great Wall is very spectacular, built on two mountains. The city wall is made of earth from the nearby Heishan. The majesty of the Great Wall shows the weapon of the year against the enemy.
The last stop is Jiayuguan City. This is where the pass is located. It is said that no one has broken this city for six hundred years. Due to time constraints, waiting to catch the train to Dunhuang, hurriedly write a few paragraphs and post a few pictures. Gansu·Jiayuguan·The First Beacon Tower of the Great Wall
The westernmost end of the Great Wall, the first beacon tower, is made of rammed earth and sits forlornly on the vast Gobi desert of the Northwest, telling tales of a thousand years of vicissitudes. The first beacon tower is located beside the Taolai River, at the southernmost end of the Jiayuguan western Great Wall, and is also the westernmost beacon tower of the Ming Dynasty's Great Wall. The first beacon tower was built in the 18th year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1539 AD) under the supervision of Li Han, the military preparation road of Suzhou. It stands 7.5 kilometers north of the pass city, towering nearly 56 meters above the cliff beside the Taolai River.

Taolaihe Canyon Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
By car, you can't imagine how many unknown people are hidden in this city called Gobi Pearl. In this place where the desert is full of desert Gobi, the most ugly one is the rushing river, but the magic is that there is a river in the northwest of Jiayuguan that has not been exhausted for thousands of years. Many of the wonders in nature that seem to be unable to coexist are actually gathered in this vast desert. The scenery of the Grand Canyon in the section of the ice ditch is not only spectacular, but the waterscape seen in different seasons is also very different. If it comes to the ice ditch in the winter, you can see it is different from the spring, autumn and summer. The scenery, the cold air from the Qilian Mountains will cause the river to begin to freeze, and there will be a few trickles on the glaciers slowly passing through the Grand Canyon. Standing at the center of the cable bridge, looking at the whole view of the Grand Canyon of the Lai River, looking around, the nearby Gobi Desert surrounds the entire canyon, showing a yellow-orange-orange piece under the setting sun, leaving the original desolate and lonely. The desert of the Gobi became splendid in a moment, and the texture of the red rock wall between the canyons danced along with the light and shadow of the sun. The weeds growing in the desert of Gobi also became a unique embellishment due to the setting sun. Adding a touch of color to the yellow Gobi, and the Qilian Mountains behind it are also true, as if the snow-capped mountains are not far away, but when they really touched it, they found that they were actually beyond reach. This is a paradise for photographers, and its a wonderful visual experience.
Hehe_Hexiaoxi.
Jiayuguan is famous for its Jiayuguan City, but there are two little-known beautiful scenery about 20 kilometers outside Jiayuguan City, Black Mountain Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Lai River.
I used to think that Crescent Moon Spring is the most beautiful oasis in the desert, until I met the Black Mountain Lake in Jiayuguan, where the Danxia landform and the desert oasis coexist, and the lake water shows a high saturation dark green under the sunlight. The expansive lake is exquisite and refreshing.
This section of the canyon we have visited has not yet been developed. It took about half an hour to drive from Heishan Lake. After going down the highway, it went to the Gobi. The car was up and down by the stones on the Gobi, and suddenly stopped on the edge of a cliff. For the first time, I felt the ground cracked in front of my eyes. The Grand Canyon is a natural surface fracture, such as a knife and axe. The inner walls on both sides of the Grand Canyon are steep and steep, and their terrain is dangerous. In the canyon, the snow melts of the Qilian Mountains flows all the year round. The layers of the mountains are painted by the sunset, and the cliffs of the canyon are also hooked on the Phnom Penh.
viatravel.
The river is the only river in Jiayuguan that people can see with the naked eye. It originates from the Qilian Mountains and has been flowing into the Heihe River. It is about 260 kilometers long. The main supply of river water comes from glacier ice and snow and groundwater. "Traising" is the transliteration of the ancient Huns, meaning "a lot of hares." There are two kinds of legends about the name. The first one is that people think that this river is coming quickly, like a rabbit. . The second is that in ancient times, the locals saw hordes of rabbits on the banks of the river. People first saw the rabbits and then saw the river. In fact, no matter from which legend, the importance of this river to the local people can be seen. Each small section of the
Shanghe River Grand Canyon has the same effect, but on the spectacular, the section of the Grand Canyon cable bridge, the ice ditch, will be even better. The ice ditch is the closest to the Qilian Mountains and belongs to the Heihe River system. The tributary, so this section almost brings together the snow and ice melt of half of the mountains. From the top down, the river is hidden from the bottom of the valley. The river is thick and narrow from the original spaciousness, and the water flow begins to become turbulent. Urgent, but this section of the river is also very clear and clean, as if you can look at the bottom of the river at a glance, its color is mainly blue-blue, like a god-given pure transparent opal, but also a desolate life The Grand Canyon adds a vibrant color. Such a spectacle is absolutely comparable to the famous "Colorado Grand Canyon."
Hehe_Hexiaoxi.
Aerial photography Jiayuguan to discuss the Laihe Grand Canyon, the river is the gift of the Qilian Mountain, but the Grand Canyon is beautiful to the heavens. The original flat and open Gobi is washed away all the year round because of the patronage of the river, in the continuous sinking and cutting effect. Next, the Gobi became the riverbed of the river, either high or low, or narrow or wide, and eventually formed a vast canyon, and the river was like a dragon on a Gobi. Go east. This side of the river brings people not only shock and awe, but it is also the prelude to the Jin Ge Iron Horse Symphony. Without it, this ridiculous Gobi will be lifeless; without it, this piece of yellow sand will only be yellow sand; without it, the most basic living conditions of countless frontier soldiers will not be guaranteed. There is also a suspension bridge in the Grand Canyon of the Lai River. Walking on the swaying suspension bridge, looking down from the riverbed, the steep cliffs on both sides are like a knife and axe, and the flowing river is like a river. For example, green silk is generally paraded in the sand and sand, and it is not awkward. The sound of the wind blew through the ear, the water flowing under the feet, and the small stones overlooking the bottom of the water, but the thrills and excitement can not help but remind people that if the bridge was there, the army would exist. How to make a great bridge over the suspension bridge!

Heishanhu Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Changyou feels Jiayuguan. It is an accident to meet the Heishan Lake Reservoir. The SUV is free to shuttle on the Gobi at the foot of the Black Mountain in Jiayuguan. The scenes are all covered with long yellow sand. The bare mountains and the mountains are rising, the vast desert is innocent, looking around. The surrounding areas are desolate and lonely places. When they are sighing with the friends of the same car, the solemn scene of Gobi is really worthy of the name. Occasionally, a lake is in sight. When we first saw it, we showed us a thrilling blue. This is A very illusory beauty. The blue color of the reservoir is as clear as a jewel, and the wide lake surface is as unsatisfactory as a mirror. Perhaps it is too long to be immersed in the bleakness, never thought of being able to marry such a lonely secret. If the friends who are not in the same industry remind me to get off the bus, I will even suspect that the view is actually the mirage on the Gobi Desert. It is such a slim and hidden between the desert Gobi. It is such a graceful and desolate. The situation is in the arms. The blue of the Black Mountain Lake Reservoir contrasts sharply with the yellowing of the surrounding Gobi. In this way, a huge ink painting is formed in front of the deep or shallow or light or dark.
Hehe_Hexiaoxi.
Heishan Lake is located at the foot of the Black Mountain in the northwest corner of the city. It is about 20 kilometers away from the urban area and has an area of about five to eight square kilometers. It is named for its geographical location. Founded in 1958, Black Mountain Lake is the largest and earliest artificial lake in Jiayuguan City. The lake water is derived from the source of the Lai River, which originated in Qilian Mountain, and flows through an artificial underground culvert of more than ten kilometers. There is no frozen black mountain lake, the lake is green, the winter Montenegro paste can see the saline-alkali land below from the ice, and the lake has been covered by ice, only occasionally there is ice. However, aerial photography can also see different landscapes.
kaixincaicai.
The lake in the Gobi is always beautiful, jumping blue and orange in the yellow sand. There are also plants that work hard in the cracks that are cracked. It is the beauty of clear and dry, life and desolate. (Yujiaguan, Heishan Lake)
YO..
Driving from Jiayuguan City to the Heishan Lake Reservoir, the landforms are desolate and uninhabited. The sky is the unstained sky, the land is the long-distance Gobi desert, a tree is not long, there are few adjustment details, and the dust trails all the way, belonging to the typical western land surface. However, this road seems to be a low-key door to the wonderful music, as if it were the wind and rain before the rainbow.
The water source here is snow water that melts from the Qilian Mountains. The waters here are not deliberately operated, but have an unintentional charm. It is a type of body that can get both the peak and the bottom. It is a kind of aquarium that can be combined with the overall consciousness of the surrounding.
She is both delicate and fortified. The blue sky, the blue Yingying water is projected, and it is lazy and temperamental. The Danxia Mountain, which was flown by her, became more and more aware of the vitality, the wildness and the vitality. The tidal flats that flowed by her, the more the eyebrows are clear, the graceful appearance, the landscapes and grasses are layered together to look like this Danxia family portrait on the water.
The frozen lake in winter is like emerald inlaid in the vast land of Jiayuguan...
