There are many forests in the mountains, and Nanping is one of the main forest areas in Sichuan. There are rare protected animals such as giant pandas, golden monkeys, takins, sika deer, white-lipped deer, etc., and it is the mountain system with the largest density and number of giant pandas in China.

Minshan Mountain is a fold mountain range extending from southern Gansu Province to northwestern Sichuan Province. It is roughly north-south with a total length of about 500 kilometers. The main peak Xuebaoding is located in Songpan County, Sichuan Province, with an altitude of 5588 meters.
