Temple
暝逝Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine is a popular temple of Shintoism with a characteristic Japanese belief system. The overall structure is similar to other shrines. The main body has a history of more than 800 years. The temple has a history of nearly a thousand years. It was built by Genji, a military family of the Heian Dynasty, to deify himself invincibly. The main god of worship is the God of War, Emperor Yingjin. The shrine is located in Kamakura, very close to the Big Buddha scenic spot. Usually one-day trips will come together. It is worth mentioning that after the completion of this temple, the Genji was blessed to establish the Kamakura Shogunate, so Very effective.

M34***68The fate of the Great Buddha and Kamakura, one of Japan's three great Buddhas, was often marred. The main body of the building, which was made of wood, was completed in six years. But after three years, it was destroyed by a typhoon. So, in 1253 began to recast the bronze seated Buddha statue, dedicated to the Great Buddha Hall. And the Great Buddha Hall also experienced many typhoons, fire damage, and again and again re-repair. But finally in 1498, due to the inverted water, the entire hall washed away. From then on, the Buddha statue has been open-air worship until now. Kamakura Buddha, high 11.5 meters, the interior is hollow structure, can be entered from the bottom of the Buddha statue. After entering, you can find that there are many traces of repairs inside the Buddha statue. On the left side of the statue, there are striking large grass shoes, about a meter long. I heard that children in Ibaraki Prefecture weave offerings to the Buddha. No wonder Masaoka Koki (a famous Japanese writer) writes haiku such as "fire にけず rain にも decay ちぬ Kamakura のはだかは Chang hui かも" (fire burns but does not destroy, rain drenches and does not decay, Kamakura open-air Buddha, perhaps eternal Buddha) to praise it.

When traveling in Tokyo, instead of just going to the classic landmarks inside this metropolitan city, you can also consider nearby attractions, including cities, historic sites, scenic spots, and hot springs. The traffic is much lighter in the Kanto region, and it only takes you 1-2 hours by JR to get to many nearby cities. If you go to Hakone, Kamakura, Yokohama and other nearby cities, there is a traffic ticket package that comes with a discount.

There are obviously numerous places in the world where you can see a Buddha statue, most probably inside a Buddha temple. Temples in Buddhism are said to be representations of pure land and pure environment and are designed to inspire peace both inwards and outwards. It is understandable that the architecture of these temples varies from region to region due to cultural intermixing and other impacts. A Buddhist temple is not just the main building however; rather it is the complete surrounding environment around it. The design of the temple is to symbolize the five elements of nature; fire, water, air, earth, and the fifth one being wisdom. The following guide will help you know about 10 amazing places around the world where you can see a magnificent Buddha statue.

Kamakura Travel Tips

About Kamakura

This is where Minamoto no Yoritomo founded the Kamakura shogunate in the late 12th century and began the rule of the samurai. The city later became the center of government in early medieval Japan. Many shrines and temples were built among its ancient government buildings and samurai residences as the city prospered. Kamakura declined after the destruction of the shogunate in the 14th century. During the Edo period, the city was restored as a travel destination, and today it is second only to Kyoto and Nara as a destination for experiencing ancient Japan. Major attractions include the Hase-dera temple, the Hokoku-ji “Bamboo Temple,” and the Kotoku-in temple with its famed Great Buddha of Kamakura.
