Photos of Higashi Chaya District

Kanazawa has three major tea house streets that have continued from the Edo period to the present, which are called Nishichaya Street, Higashichaya Street, and Juji Town. East Chaya Street is one of the bigger ones. At present, the style of Higashi Chaya Street still maintains the style of the Edo period. Wooden houses are lined up on both sides of the stone road. The old buildings that have been redecorated are now restaurants, tea shops or souvenir shops. This is a preservation area of important traditional buildings in Japan.
