Mount Rokko is a great place to shoot the night view of Kobe. Except for the inconvenient transportation, the rest are still very good attractions. After arriving in Kobe, you need to take the city bus No. 16 to the Rokkosan cable car station, then change to the Rokkosan cable car to reach the mountainside location, and finally transfer to the mountain bus to reach the mountaintop observatory
Rokko Mountain is located in the northeastern part of Kobe City, with an altitude of 931 meters. It was the first foreign country to build villas here during the Meiji era, and later developed into a tourist attraction. Tatechukan Rokko, Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden, and Rotating Ten Countries Observatory are famous sightseeing spots. There are recreational facilities on the top of the mountain, and you can ski in winter. It is also the best place to watch the night view of Kobe Port. The night view seen here is called "the night view of 10 million dollars in gold." The night view from the rooftop near Rokkoshandong Station, the star-going platform on the top of Maya Mountain, and the revolving ten-nation observatory in East Rokko are also unique. Guanzhongguan Rokko is a museum that collects ancient music boxes and automatic playing instruments from Europe and the United States. The world's largest automatic playing organ is 7.8 meters wide and 4.6 meters high. Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden has about 1,500 species of alpine plants in the world. The revolving ten-nation observatory rotates every 5 minutes. If the weather is clear, you can see 10 places such as Awaji and Awa in Tokushima, Shikoku. This is why the ten-nation observatory is named.
Mt. Rokko stands 931 meters above sea level, and is one of the most popular places for outdoor activities in all of Kansai. It's one of the few mountains in the world that has over 100 hiking courses, so of course, many people travel from all over to hike there. Paths are all clearly marked with signs (in Japanese only, but some have photos to help you out) and you can choose from a variety of shorter or very long hikes great for all different fitness levels.
