Zhouzhuang: the Most Charming Water Town
If you want an experience that includes Chinese history, culture, art, and food, this is the place! Zhouzhuang isn't far from the heart of Suzhou, and every part of this water township is delightful. The bridges, canals, and alleyways look like they fell out of paintings. The markets are extensive, with food and art and embroidery that dazzles the senses. On my trip to Suzhou, this was definitely my favorite place to visit, and I'm so glad that I went! #suzhou #zhouzhuang #watertown #solotravel #summervacation #historicculture

Jinxi Ancient Town Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Jinxi, The Hometown of Folk Museums in China
Jinxi is located in Jiangsu Province, China, It is a well-known historical town with a history of more than 2,000 years. We drove to Jinxi from Suzhou (about 23 km). Jinxi is also known as Chenmu, which means the tomb of Chen. There is a touchy story about Chen, the concubine of the emperor Xiaozong. Find online for details. Jinxi is a
wonderfully delicate watery town. It is surrounded by clear water and many waterways snaking through the town. Jinxi has 36 bridges and 72 brick kilns. Gulian bridge is the most eye catching bridge among others. There are a lot of museums in Jinxi with delicate articrafts. You can complete the entire place within half day if you start visiting there early morning. You can also plan to check the other two nearby water towns `Zhouzhuang` (China`s no.1 water town) and Tongli.

Jiangnan Water Town is rich in ancient towns: Jasper Zhouzhuang, rich soil Tongli, Fengqing straight, Mengli Xitang, Shuige Wuzhen have their own advantages, and are favored by tourists, but I only have a special liking for Jinxi Ancient Town. She was born in the gentle waters of the south of the Yangtze River, fading away from the commercial prosperity, leaving the simplicity and elegance alone.
The town in the early morning is immersed in the dream, pushing open the red door of the bed and the mottled wooden door. The smoke shop on both sides of the street is not open yet. I walked through the melody of the bird, passed through the unmanned stone road, and met the ancient lotus pond. The lotus flower that just showed sharp corners, the glory of the morning sun just sprinkled, and the ancient lotus bridge not far away outlined the classical silhouette of the hollow, a breeze passed, and the message of early summer came.

Found a short-distance parent-child tour around Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai
location
Jiangsu Kunshan Jinxi
traffic:
at the junction of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, no matter where it is not far. Shanghai is driving for an hour, and Hangzhou is driving for more than two hours.
What to play:
There is a rafting boat, there is clay making, there is a woodworking experience, and leather handcraft, of course, the most important thing is that there are young people who are in line with the young peoples aesthetics and have excellent service experience. There is also a group of interesting people who love life and create new things.
Here you can bring the children to experience the local, or you can watch the open-air movies with friends while roasting around the campfire, or drive for a few minutes to visit the nearby Jinxi Ancient Town. (Jinxi Ancient Town has an open water area, which is rare in the ancient town. It is worth a visit.)

There are many ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River in Suzhou, but when it comes to the ancient towns of Suzhou, many people think of Zhouzhuang for the first time. It is known as the first water town in China. The tourists are crowded with people. If you encounter weekends or national holidays, it is difficult to walk in the scenic spot. Here, for a person who has lived in Suzhou for many years, it is recommended to visit Jinxi Ancient Town, which is less than half an hour's drive from Zhouzhuang.
Jinxi Ancient Town, recalling Jiangnan in the dream. Jinxi Ancient Town is a water town in the south of the Yangtze River with a history of more than 2,000 years. It is known as the Hometown of Chinese Folk Museums and has many cultural landscapes, historic sites and countless buildings with unique characteristics. Famous attractions include the Tongshen Royal Court, Chen Yushui, and the Lotus Pond.
Visit Jinxi Ancient Town itself does not need to buy tickets, but to visit the museums in the ancient towns, you need to buy tickets, it is recommended to buy a pass, which is more cost-effective than buying a museum ticket separately.
Wenxing Pavilion is located at the bank of Gulian Pool in Jinxi Town, Kunshan City. It was built in the Ming Dynasty and is a three-story pavilion-style building with a square-wood structure and a flying slanting angle of 15.6 meters. It is worth a visit.

Enjoyable Birthday Stay at Dusit Thani!
We had a great staycation over the weekend to celebrate a birthday and a surprise proposal! The concierge team was very kind and helpful with the preparation. Thanks to Mr Muzaffar and his team! It is definitely a night to remember forever!
The first floor room had easy access to the swimming pool with a small terrace of our own. But the sound of the airplane passing by can be a bit loud, so would not recommend the first floor to those who are sensitive to sound during sleep.
Otherwise it was a great escape from the city :)

Xin Yuan Ji - Singapore
📍 31 Tan Quee Lan St, #01-01, 188117
Fish steamboat and fish bee hoon are common food in Singapore. And Xin Yuan Ji is one of the famous stores here.
The store is located around Bugis. It was my favourite lunch the first two weeks when I came to Singapore. I liked to have bee hoon here and it's quite to my taste. 🥣
For those who want a simple meal, a been hoon would be perfect. I would recommend fried fish meat or fried fish head bee hoon. Sliced fish is not so good to my taste. I like fish head more, and add fried egg. 🥚Fried egg is nice, too, you should try.
Steamboat here is also famous but I haven't try. Here is cash only. And they will ask you if you want milk in the soup. 🥛For me milk is the essence for the soup so definitely yes. 😋

Qiandeng Ancient Town Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Strolling through the ancient town of Qiandeng
Qiandeng ancient town is located at No. 11 Shangshu Road, Qiandeng town, Suzhou city, with its antique buildings that seem to tell stories of a century. Walking on the stone-paved lanes of the ancient town, the shops along the way are full of dazzling crafts; the fragrant snacks, each bite is a memory of childhood, including shredded radish fritters, osmanthus cakes, zongzi, fried stinky tofu, and of course, the Qingtuan for Qingming Festival. The bridge is bustling with people, and the water flows gently beneath, as if one could hear the distant singing. Here, time seems to slow down, allowing one to indulge in this tranquility and beauty. Qiandeng ancient town is a place that has not been fully commercially developed, and every visit brings new discoveries.

🔥Gu Yanwu's Former Residence
This is the famous Mr. Tinglin Gu Yanwu's hometown, consisting of ancient Ming and Qing architectural complexes, including the places where he lived, ancestral halls, and the beautiful Gu Garden, as well as the tombs of him and his wife, all of which are here, with a profound cultural heritage.
💡Qiandeng Museum
This museum, converted from a Qing Dynasty Li residence, houses thousands of ancient lamps, which perfectly match the name of Qiandeng Ancient Town! Walking through it is like traveling to the ancient world of light and shadow.
🏠Yanfu Zen Temple
Hidden in the ancient town is the thousand-year-old Yanfu Zen Temple, with a long history. It once had 1008 Zen rooms and was crowded with monks. Despite the vicissitudes of time, it still stands firm, witnessing the changes of the years.
🌈Travel Experience Notes: Overall, Qiandeng Ancient Town is suitable for a leisurely stroll, but if you make a special long trip here, it might not be worth the ticket price. It's better to include it in your itinerary for a surrounding tour and stop by to experience the unique charm of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River😊

Shiban Ancient Town
Qiandeng Ancient Town, located at the south of Kunshan in Jiangsu, was formerly known as 'Qiandun'. It has a long history and beautiful scenery. You can take the subway from Shanghai to Kunshan Huaqiao, which is at the border of Shanghai and Jiangsu, and then transfer to a bus to reach Qiandeng. The ancient town has four major attractions: one is the longest stone slab street in Jiangsu Province, two is the Yanfu Zen Temple, three is the birthplace of Kunqu opera, and four is the hometown of Gu Yanwu. In addition, if time permits, you can visit some other scenic spots.

The quaint Xiemaoqiao Village is refreshing and comfortable
After several days of overcast and rainy weather, we finally welcomed a beautiful day. Early in the morning, I arrived at Xiemaoqiao Village in Kunshan, which is a 50-minute drive from Shanghai. The entire ancient village is fresh and tranquil, with few tourists. Walking on the bluestone path by the river, I was surrounded by greenery.
The ancient village is not very large, and it takes about 1 hour to stroll around. For dining, there is Baisheng's home at the entrance of the village, where you can order dishes or have noodles. There are many coffee shops and tea rooms by the river, so there's no need to fret. Compared to Yichi Garden, the riverside coffee shops are more leisurely. For example, at Yincha Bureau, you can order a pot of tea and bask in the sun by the river to while away an afternoon.

The small village of Xiemabridge in early spring
Xiemabridge Village is located in Kunshan, Jiangsu. According to the 'Songnan Records', the bridge was named 'Xiemabridge' because it was built by calculating the work of the stone drivers and resting the horses. Folklore has it that Han Shizhong, a famous general of the Southern Song Dynasty, once rested his troops here. Due to the abundant water and grass, Han Shizhong's men rested and nourished their war horses here. To facilitate travel between the two sides of the Shipu River, they built a bridge over the river, and the bridge was called Xiemabridge at that time.

Just 1 hour from Shanghai, there lies a pristine ancient village
I originally thought that such ancient villages were either located in remote areas or were overly developed and commercialized imitation ancient villages, with not much worth seeing. However, this trip gave me an unforgettable surprise...
Unlike other scenic areas that require tickets and checkpoints,
Xiemabridge Village is located right at the edge of Airport Road, with no threshold to cross, open and natural. Its entrance is just a simple archway,
yet this archway seems like a magical portal through time. Passing through it, on one side is the bustling modern world, full of life and excitement; on the other side is the tranquil and serene ancient village, with the crowing of roosters and barking of dogs, where time stands still.
Located in Qiandeng of Kunshan, Xiemabridge Village is small and beautiful, yet quiet. On weekdays, there are hardly any people, and on weekends, there are more, but the number of visitors is nothing compared to popular water towns like Zhouzhuang and Tongli.
Xiemabridge Village is a newly developed attraction, renovated to preserve its old charm, natural and simple. The village houses with their black tiles and grey bricks stand along the river, arranged in a picturesque disorder. With small bridges over flowing water, it exudes the rich charm of the water towns of the south of the Yangtze River.
The businesses that have settled in include Yichi Garden Cafe, Naiye Handicraft Shop, Yishi Hanfu Culture Experience Hall, Banshan Art Coffee Homestay, as well as Duiyin Tea Club and Xiemabridge Old Tea House, among others. There are also the existing hair salons and snack shops. Each shop looks very stylish, making one want to enter.

Returning to Xiema Bridge
After more than half a year, I returned to the ancient town of Xiema Bridge. The development of the ancient town has been rapid, and its popularity has also surged, with many more restaurants, coffee bars, and tea houses. The outdoor seating is full of people; I remember last time, only the Yichi Garden and a few coffee shops at the entrance had visitors, but this time it feels much more lively.
Xiema Bridge Ancient Town is located in the southeastern suburbs of Qiandeng Town, Kunshan City, preserving the two natural villages of Xiema Bridge and Yaozhuang. Inside the village, there are farmlands, ponds, and orchards. The village of Xiema Bridge was named after Han Shizhong, a famous general of the Southern Song Dynasty, who stationed his troops here to rest his horses. The village retains ancient Ming and Qing structures such as the Xiema Bridge, stone slab streets, and Zhongshan Bridge, as well as ancient trees like centuries-old boxwoods and osmanthus, and there is also a Han Shizhong Memorial Hall.
Strolling along the river, stopping from time to time to drink tea or coffee, is especially leisurely and enjoyable. Especially in the evening when the lights are on, the lights on both sides of the river add color, as if entering a tranquil and magical world.
I spent a leisurely afternoon sitting by the river, enjoying the spring breeze and fine tea, a truly worthwhile human experience.
Parking is free, with a parking lot right at the entrance.
Admission is free.
Close to the highway, suitable for driving.
