Ledong is an autonomous county under the direct control of Hainan Province. The county is located in the southwest of Hainan Island. Due to deep historical and cultural roots, the Li and Miao people of Ledong have maintained many of their traditional folk ways and customs, such as the “third day of the third lunar month” custom, songs and dances, and the wedding ceremonies of the Li people. Some famous attractions are Jianfeng Ling National Forest Park and Jiaxi Nature Reserve.
The Jianfeng Ridge National Forest Park features the lush landscape of old-growth tropical rainforest. From a distance, the whole mountain appears sharply pointed like the blade of a knife, giving the place its name. In addition to enjoying the fun of going mountain climbing, this park also has beautiful attractions such as the Tianchi Heavenly Lake. The lake is smooth and flat like the surface of a giant mirror surrounded by a number of resort hotels. Visitors will find it easy to enjoy the quiet and beautiful scenery found here.
Longmuwan Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale Paradise is on the pristine southwest coast of the island. The entire hotel is olive-shaped and divided into the north and south parts by a breathtaking seascape canal. There are restaurants, cafes and bars on the south side of the canal and super-large-scale spas and fitness facilities on the north side. The entertainment facilities are exhilarating.
The Yinggehai Salt Flats are located in Ledong County. Different channels intersect orderly with each other across the large salt field. Gorgeous scenery unfolds with the silver salt sea reflecting the blue sky. Visitors can observe the interesting salt manufacturing process in the Yinggehai Salt Flats. The ideal time for this is generally in the afternoon when salt workers firstly pound the salt into pieces, and then pile the sized salt up as small salt piles. During peak seasons, the salt plant has a numerous silver salt piles, forming a splendid view.
Maogong Mountain is also called Baoguo. It's located within Baoguo Grain Farm in Ledong County. The best scenic views are to be had from Maogong Mountain's peak and stretch from the northeast to the southwest. Maogong Mountain was originally named after its shape, but coincidentally also contains the Li settlement--appropriately called Liberation Village--in front of the mountain and another ethnic Miao village called Dongfang Hong (meaning "Eastern Red") behind it. The two villages were named during the era of Hainan's liberation. The mountain's appearance seems somewhat similar to a mighty man, and its interesting village names add a special hint of mystique to the extraordinary sights.
