Everywhere we looked was a picture perfect sight. There were a lot of couples getting professional pictures taken. Other than that it was quiet. Lots of great shops and restaurants. We tried a little bit of everything at some street food stands and were very satisfied.
The old town is not far from Lijiang old town. It’s worth to go there as several view points are there.
The ancient town of Shuhe is part of the world cultural heritage of the ancient city of Lijiang, the birthplace of the Mu family chieftain, and an important and well-preserved market town on the Tea Horse Road. Compared to Dayan Old Town, which has been heavily commercialized, I prefer the simple folk customs preserved in Shuhe Old Town. The ancient town is located four kilometers northwest of the ancient city of Lijiang, about 7 kilometers away from the ancient city. From Lijiang to Shuhe, you can take a bus or a taxi. The taxi is usually about 30 yuan. You can also rent a bicycle from Lijiang to ride there. It is suitable for young people and couples. Shuhe Ancient Town is located at the core of all the scenic spots in Lijiang. It is a hub for visiting the ancient city of Lijiang, Yulong Snow Mountain, Lugu Lake, the First Bay of the Yangtze River, and the Three Parallel Rivers. The ancient town of Shuhe not only has the graceful temperament of an ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River, but also has the unique ethnic characteristics and atmosphere of the Southwest Plateau. From time to time, the sound of horses' hooves beating on the empty Sifang Street, Qinglong Bridge and crisscross alleys, quiet and far-reaching. Tickets are charged for Shuhe Ancient Town, but when we went, we could also enter the small road next to the main entrance of the ancient town. And when we went in before 7 am or after 5 pm, no one checked the ticket. The ancient town of Shuhe is not very big and can be transferred within half a day. It is recommended to go to Sifang Street, Qinglong Bridge, Nine-Tripod Dragon Pond, Ancient Tea-Horse Road Museum and other scenic spots. The handicraft shop selling silverware is the most popular along the street. The Sifang Street in Shuhe Ancient Town is a magical street. Although the area is small, the Sifang Street flowing on all sides is the most lively residence in Shuhe Ancient Town. Not only can you feel the strong Lijiang flavor, you can also taste the special cuisine. Passing through the Sifang Street along the Qinglong River, the breeze can always bring people a sense of tranquility. If the tour in the ancient town ends early, you can walk out of the ancient town from behind the Sansheng Palace to visit the ancient town of Baisha for an hour. There are many sumac trees on Shilian Mountain in Shuhe, and the leaves are bright red in autumn. Don't miss it at this time.
