Featuring a design like that of the Eiffel Tower, the Elevador Santa Justa is the only vertical street elevator in Lisbon. It was designed by Raoul de Mesnier du Ponsard and was completed in 1902 to make movement between one part of the city and the other more practical. While initially a steam-powered device, the elevator switched to electric power in 1907. You can climb aboard one of the two cabins along with as many as 24 other passengers, and then you can set off on your 147-foot ride to the top of the neo-Gothic tower. There you can dine in a cafe and enjoy a great view of the city.
