The Alcala Gate, built in 1788, is one of the oldest existing gates in Madrid, the Arc de Triomphe style of ancient Rome. There are also Queen-style dolls on the side of the road, very stylish, especially the women with small wings over the crown.
Very famous place to visit
The Porte Alcalá is in the Independence Square, which is also a bustling market and traffic arteries. I didn’t stop there, just took a picture outside, a bit like the Arc de Triomphe in a city like Paris.
The Gate of Alcala stands on Independence Square. It is a monumental and grand gate. You can walk past it from Gran Via Avenue to Retiro Park and Salamanca. The day and night here are very busy, similar to London Marble Arch, but on a larger scale. There are many coffee shops nearby, you can sit down and admire the charm of Alcala’s gates.
