Additional Information

Introduction

Bab Agnaou, constructed in the 12th century by the Almohad Sultan Yaqub al-Mansour, is the innermost and most ornate of the nineteen gates in Marrakech, Morocco. Encompassing the inner city known as the royal kasbah, the gate itself is a monument to engineering and artistry. Intricately emblazoned with Maghrebi cursive Kufic writings and floral designs, the blue-and-ochre facade is made of Jbel Gueliz sandstone. The walls contain the kasbah mosque El-Mansouri, the Saadian tombs, and El Badi Palace, and its location in south eastern Marrakech is adjacent to countless other historical sites.
