Bansuisou is Wancuizhuang, a rare Western-style building in Matsuyama. Built in 1922, it is the French-style residence of Count Hisamatsu. Count Hisamatsu was the military attache of the army overseas at the time and lived in France for a long time. He was the most proficient in France in the army. Therefore, his other residence, Wancuizhuang, became a high-level social occasion at that time, gathering celebrities from all over the world. Today this villa is a branch of the Ehime Prefectural Art Museum. It is free to visit the lobby on the first floor, and you need to buy tickets to go upstairs.
I didn't know that the first French Western-style building existed in Matsuyama beforehand, so when I went to the "Sakanoue no Kumo" museum, I stopped. You can visit the first floor for free. There is an audience room and a dinner. I think it’s best to learn about history through voice guidance.
Wancuizhuang is on a small slope diagonally across from the main street, with pointed roofs and large carved terraces. At first glance, it looks a bit like Disney's castle. It is one of the few western buildings in Songshan City. The internal structure and decoration style are very similar to the old Hakodate Public Hall in Hakodate, Hokkaido. The lobby on the first floor is empty, only the fireplace seems to be able to feel the warmth of the past, and the gorgeous chandeliers make people seem to see the singing and dancing of the past.
Wancuizhuang and Sakagami Cloud are on the same trail and can be visited together. Go straight up the slope road next to Sakakami-no-cloud, and within a few minutes you can arrive at Wancuizhuang. This is a French Renaissance style Western building built by Count Hisamatsu, the descendant of the old Matsuyama lord, visited by the Japanese royal family. Songshan and Songshan local celebrities from all walks of life meet in social places. The current visit is free on the first floor, and visitors to the second floor need to buy tickets, but the first floor is currently an empty hall with no furniture.
Wancuizhuang is still easy to find. Just go in the small road opposite the main street. The scenery in Wancuizhuang is still good. If you enter, you will need to charge an additional 200 yen ticket. The price is not expensive. This villa is built on the mountainside, seen from the Sakagami Cloud Museum on the opposite side, hidden in the green hills, with a remote artistic conception and a good location.
