Nice view with traditional Japanese atmosphere. I went there in April 2019, the weather was warm (upto 26-28C during day time) Stayed in Otaru for 2 nights, so I can see the different views during daytime and night time. Like Otaru Canal very much, the canal, fresh air and the view seems liked bring you back to 100 years ago. Wanted to go again in Winter time, must be a very different scenes.

A must see in Otaru. But not somewhere you will need to spend a lot of time at. Take photos once during daytime and then at nighttime.
I really like wandering along the canal beside the fishing warehouses, some of which have been converted into restaurants and shopping.
Otaru Canal gots many shopping malls along the canal have been converted from stone-built or brick-built warehouses. You can see many things sold here such as wines, Musix Box, chocolate,ice-cream etc.
The Otaru Canal was Otaru's main artery when it was primarily a fishing and trading port and played an important role in the city's economic growth. The Otaru Canal is still important to Otaru, but tourists and canal boat rides have taken place of the trading boats. People come to visit to see its quiet beauty and then enjoy delicious seafood meals along the banks.
