Shencemen Park (North Gate)

Speaking of the old city gate of Nanjing, there is a saying among the people: "Thirteen inside, eighteen outside, one bolt is inserted outward." This city gate described as "the bolt is inserted outward" refers to Shence Gate . The Shence Gate is small in scale, with the city gate inside and the Weng City outside. The jingle vividly summarizes its special architectural form. Today's Shence Gate is a relatively well-preserved city gate in Nanjing, and the Wengcheng, Shengmen and the three-bay Xieshan tower are still there. Although Shencemen is a military fortress, it is rarely populated due to its remote location. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was basically closed and not used. In 1928, the National Government changed Victory Gate to "Peace Gate". During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Japanese army occupied Nanjing and built a gasoline depot with the urn outside Hepingmen. After the liberation, the Nanjing Military Region took over the place, which is still used as an oil depot. As a military restricted area for a long time, Shencemen has always been covered with a mysterious color. According to the Nanjing Ming City Wall Scenic Belt Plan, in August 2001, Shencemen Yuecheng Park was completed. Shencemen finally lifted the veil of mystery and showed its unique charm in front of the world.
