Xiangshui Villa is a particularly good Chinese restaurant in Manhattan. This Chinese restaurant is the main Hunan cuisine. I heard the boss introduce that the chef in the store was specially invited from Hunan, so the dishes are particularly authentic. I like their spicy stew pot the most, and the spicy ones are just right.

Cheap (decent) eats are not easy to find in this part of NY, so we were glad to find this place. The first thing we noticed was that most of the clientele were Chinese - usually a sign of authenticity. The food was certainly good - all the usual staples, plus more unusual dishes, like chicken with seared tangerine (delicious!). Good food and good value.

This place doesn&#39;t look like much from the outside. The entrance is tiny and everything is written in Chinese. I was feeling a bit adventurous, so I stopped in. I&#39;m glad I did. I ended up visiting twice. I had takeout at dinner one day and came back another day for lunch. Food was great both times. My mother is picky about Chinese food and really loved this place too. They have the standard favorites like General Tso&#39;s and Kung Pao chicken. They also have more exotic dishes like chicken feet and chilled pig ears. My favorites were the Mei Fun and the Fried Vegetable Dumplings. The prices were higher than I&#39;m used to paying down South, but still pretty reasonable. When I dined-in, I felt a bit rushed to order. The menu was fairly extensive. We needed a few minutes to digest it all but were approached to order multiple times within a very short period. Other than that, I can&#39;t complain about the service.

My friend and I shared two entrees --- both were perfectly decent but nothing out of the ordinary. The service was very slow -- waitress&#39;s command of English seemed limited. Downstairs was crowded -- we went upstairs where it was rather quiet enabling diners to speak and be heard. Not inexpensive -- maybe because it is close to Fifth Avenue?

Grabbed a quick bite on a dinner break. Got the wonton soup and the pork dumplings fried in spicy oil. The dumplings were good. Tried the first one alone and it was bland but the sauce the put on the bottom really went well with it. I wasn&#39;t sure it was possible to have bad wonton soup until I tried this. The soup was dark brown/black and it tasted like someone dropped an entire container of salt into my soup. 45 minutes later and my lips still taste of salt. And I only had 4-5 sips before I gave up and just ate the noodles, leaving the broth. The noodles weren&#39;t good either...too flimsy and with barely anything inside I wish the soup was better. I would like to try some other dishes that sounded good but I only get Chinese when I&#39;m in the mood for wonton soup and frankly, there are a lot of other options in the area for me to go to instead that doesn&#39;t put your body in sodium shock
