Hidden in the mountains, the ancient Tea Horse Road post station | Pu'er·Nakeli
| Pu'er·Nakeli.
If you say you're traveling to Yunnan
and you're already tired of the hustle and bustle of Xishuangbanna
the noise of the ancient city of Dali
and have seen enough of the tourist flood in Lijiang
then come and have a look at Pu'er!
This place is worth your lingering visits
and it's not just about Pu'er tea and dried beef.
Nakeli was once an important post station on the ancient Tea Horse Road, a necessary path for the horse caravans traveling between Simao and the official road to Beijing. For hundreds of years, this place has preserved very intact ancient village architecture, and the old horse road still looks the same as it did hundreds of years ago. Due to its remote location, there are very few tourists who come here, but the rich products, the famous caravan cuisine, and the profound historical and cultural atmosphere are also worth spending a day here.
Visiting time: About half a day, it's nice to go to the village in the morning to see the morning mist. It's more comfortable to leave after lunch.
Location: Nakeli Village, Tongxin Town, Ning'er County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province
Transportation: It's a 30-minute drive from the downtown area of Pu'er, convenient by self-driving or taxi, but remember not to take the highway as there is no exit, just go directly on the G213 national road, it's ok
Ticket: 0 yuan, free

Nakeli: A Time-Honored Rest Stop on the Ancient Tea Horse Road
Nakeli, a time-honored rest stop hidden on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, quietly tells the stories of a thousand years.
Here, the ancient path stretches far and wide, and the sound of horse hooves echoes, as if one can still hear the camel bells of the caravan, feeling the simplicity and vicissitudes of time. Stepping onto the land of Nakeli, the first thing that catches the eye is a lush green forest, with verdant trees shading the quaint village.
The stone-paved ancient path winds and twists, passing through villages, connecting the past with the present. Strolling along the path is like traveling through time, back to the era when caravans galloped through.
In Nakeli, you can witness the historical relics of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. The well-preserved horse lanterns and stone troughs for horses to drink from all bear witness to the glorious years of the caravan.
Standing beside the ancient road, it's as if one can hear the sound of horse hooves, feeling the tenacity and perseverance.
Apart from historical relics, Nakeli also has a strong ethnic cultural atmosphere.
The area is predominantly inhabited by ethnic minorities such as the Hani and Yi people, who have used their wisdom and diligence to create a rich and colorful cultural art.
Here, you can enjoy unique ethnic dances, taste authentic local cuisine, and feel the simplicity and enthusiasm.
Today's Nakeli has developed into a charming rural tourism destination.
Here, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city, finding inner peace and tranquility.
Whether you are strolling on the ancient path or sitting in a small shop at the entrance of the village sipping tea and chatting, you can feel the relaxation and comfort.
Nakeli, a place full of stories and legends. It carries the glorious history of the Ancient Tea Horse Road, showcases the rich ethnic culture, and also exudes the tranquility and beauty of the countryside.
If you long to escape the noise of the city and find a haven for your soul, then Nakeli is the perfect choice for you.

How can one pass by Pu'er without stopping at Nako Li?!
Ten years later, returning to Nako Li, one can't help but exclaim, 'Such a huge change!'
Gold will always shine! Pu'er has two main pillars: tourism and tea. Nako Li is part of the ancient Tea Horse Road and represents an opportunity for rural revitalization.
Thus, today's Nako Li is inseparable from the government's attention, with bank poverty alleviation and assistance projects proving to be quite successful, attracting crowds of tourists.
Nako Li, this time it's just a pass-through, but I will come back, for I have beautiful memories here!

Sharing my little travel itinerary
Nakeli Ancient Town is the least commercialized ancient town I've ever visited
You can buy everything there, olive honey for 15 yuan a bottle
I took a taxi there, the journey is a bit long
The driver might say that he needs to charge more (the reason being that it's hard to find passengers for the return trip)
But actually, it's not necessary, because there are always many people during the day
You can refuse the extra charge
-
Local specialties, like the sour and spicy chicken feet, don't need to be bought at the store
Ordering takeout is super convenient
-
Pay attention to the business hours of Yang's Puer Sour and Spicy Rice Noodles
They close in the afternoon (you can also order takeout)
No need to make the trip, the delivery won't spoil, and overall it's pretty good
-
Shen's Stinky Tofu always has a long queue
It feels like it's better to go there ahead of the mealtime rush
-
May 1st Farmers' Market
When I went there, it felt just like a vegetable market,
Since I don't live there, there wasn't much for me to buy
However, if you walk to the left of the market, there's a beef shop
They have their special dried beef
It's very fragrant when stir-fried in the shop! I bought some to take home!
It's much cheaper than in Xishuangbanna, definitely worth a try
-
I regret not allocating more time for Puer in my itinerary
I really like this city

Go wild in Nako Li - Pu'er Tea Ancient Trail
Go wild, as we are not immortals from Penglai, envying not the mandarin ducks but the celestial beings. Roaming in Nako Li for half a day, the ancient trail still feels majestic, and the aroma of tea naturally elegant. Regardless of the world's coldness or warmth, with friends, one can leisurely enjoy.
What I see is not what you see, traveling is but a search for oneself.
🌟 Highlights:
The original charm of the ancient trail is preserved. Stone-paved, enduring for a millennium, one step and the heart knows, a thousand years of convergence.
👍 Most recommended:
Find a courtyard, brew tea, watch flowers, chat with friends, and vent all the sorrows.
🚉 Transportation tips:
Departing from Pu'er, over 30 kilometers, no public transport seen. Taking a taxi back and forth costs about 120, one way takes 1 hour. If there's no car for the return trip, wait longer, and don't return too late. It should be fine before 3 pm.
🗓 Itinerary:
Half a day should suffice. It takes 1 hour to walk through the small village, and it's comfortable to sunbathe and drink tea for half a day.
📝 Note tips:
Courtyards all sell tea, with big price differences. It's advised to taste before buying, a price around 400 per half kilogram is acceptable, after all, we are not tea connoisseurs, as long as it tastes good. For your reference.

Take my advice, Na Keli in Yunnan Pu'er really takes great photos
Na Keli was once an important post station on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, and it still preserves many historical relics and ancient sites, including the century-old Rongfa old shop, horse lanterns used by horse teams, stone troughs and other relics.
Na Keli is a post station on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, the place is small, sandwiched between the highway, provincial road, and mountains. It only takes half an hour to walk around, but if you go into shops, taste tea, take photos... you can spend half a day.
It's a 30-minute drive from Pu'er city center, it's very convenient to drive or take a taxi, but remember not to take the highway (you will miss this place if you take the highway), there is no exit, just take the G213 National Road.
You can also take a bus, about 40 minutes, tell the driver to go to 'Na Keli', they will drop you off at the highway toll station. After getting off the bus, you just need to cross a road to get there.
Return trip: The bus driver will proactively help you, let you leave the driver's phone number, the driver will call in advance before the return trip to wait at the entrance of the scenic spot, it's very convenient. There are buses before 5 pm.
Highlights: Photo check-in spots. Iron chain bridge - opposite Xinyuan Restaurant.
Covered bridge - in front of the big stone mill Rongfa horse shop
Horse jumping stone - on the left side of Rongfa horse shop.
Eat: Local people will sell some snacks, the prices are very favorable, and there are stir-fried dishes in the restaurant.
One of the filming locations of the TV series 'Go to the Place with Wind'
A place where Liu Yifei and Li Xian have been.
After the end, you can go to the nearby Ning'er County to play other attractions, or you can return to Pu'er City to go to Xishuangbanna, etc., don't miss it.

Minority Pu'er | Avoiding the crowd to visit the profound background of Nakeri Ancient Town
This time, I felt the Nakeri Tea Horse Post Station
🎋About 45 minutes drive from Pu'er City, there is a beautiful ancient town—🍀Nakeri Ancient Town. Although it is now a minority scenic spot, its history is very long, and its status in the ancient tea-horse road was also very important. It is an important post station in the ancient tea-horse road and a place where official seals are added. Today's Nakeri is still beautiful, it not only retains the charm given by history but also has a strong humanistic atmosphere.
🌾The bluestone road in Nakeri is shining with the luster of the years, and the small shops on both sides are antique. Passing by the food shop, there is occasional cooking smoke. Let the child ride a horse and walk on the ancient tea-horse road, passing through the bamboo forest as if traveling through history.
🌻After walking through the Wind and Rain Bridge, I realized that although the hoof prints are left, the years are like new.
🍚Go to Rongfa Horse Shop to taste the horse gang dishes and experience the taste of the journey.
🍵"Outside the Long Pavilion" taste a cup of tea, take a picture of "Peace. Joy" under the flowers.
🌺An ancient town outside the world, give yourself a peaceful journey, isn't it fragrant?!

Mohei Ancient Town, the foremost town of the Tea Horse Ancient Road
The hometown of the beauty (the hometown of Yang Likun, the leading actress in the movie 'Five Golden Flowers').
The first town on the Tea Horse Ancient Trail. It's nice to stroll around for a day. The beef jerky bar is pretty good.
I happened to meet an elder, Mr. Zhang Zhaogong, who resides away from his hometown. Seeing that we were from the inland, he felt a sense of encountering old acquaintances in a foreign land. The old man is in good health, very talkative, knowledgeable, with a wide range of interests, and we had a pleasant conversation. Moreover, he led us to several unique spots in the ancient town that we hadn't noticed and introduced us to several plants we were unaware of. Talking with the elder was very rewarding.
It is recommended for those visiting Mohei Ancient Town to consider having the elder as a guide; it will surely be a trip worth taking.
