Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve is located in Qingchuan County in the Sichuan Basin, with Gansu to the north. The mountains throughout the reserve stretch off into the distance as far as the eye can see. Large swathes of old-growth forest are home to giant pandas, snub-nosed monkeys, takins, Chinese pheasants and other nationally protected wildlife. There are also many precious protected plants in the reserve including handkerchief trees and wild azaleas. Scattered throughout the reserve are various stone stairways that visitors can climb to discover the remains of ancient roads once used for trade.
