a bit of drive out of the centre but very nice. not too big and alot of opportunities for photos.

about an hours drive away from Xi&rsquo;an city. Many tourists flock to see this incredible sight. The entrance is stocked with opportunistic tour guides, they are not necessary unless you want more information. excavations are still continuing which is nice to see but some parts are kept as found.

a convenient centre easily accesible to see the giant panda as well as the red panda. many tourists but very typical of china. the centre is not too big or too small. amazing opportunity to observe some of the cutest animals in the world

01:00 in the morning start to hike up to the crater lake to see the blue fire. that is the molten lava burning the suplphur blue. waited for sunrise and enjoyed a warm cup of coffee with the guides.this is not an easy walk for those unfit. steep and dusty but worth the effort. we went when it was super busy with tourists, very difficult to avoid.

Worth a 4 hour drive from Lijiang City. Beautiful old village perched on a rock along the Jinsha river. Not much going on but to sit and absorb the views, peace and natural surroundings. 

There is an hiking trail you can hire a guide to take you (12 hours there and back). Along the way you will get amazing views of the Valley and the river and the villages dotted around. The main feature is a carved out cliff and 60m tunnel dug out by the hands of the invading mongols 1200 years ago. 

Food is all local and limited accommodation is available such a hostels, homestay and 1 hotel with 6 rooms. Definitely an authentic experience away from the overly touristic towns of Lijiang itself.
