Matsu Temple may be a temple where many fishermen go to sea to worship. People come to worship during the day and night, and the local people are very religious. The Matsu Temple is surrounded by the sea, if you have time, you can come and have a look
I visited this temple during the day, but I didn't expect to go out for a walk at night. There are still people coming in this temple, and the incense is very strong. This is somewhat different from Chinese temples. Most Chinese temples are tourist attractions, so you can't enter after 6:00 every night. The temples here are the real places for locals to worship. Even at night, the lights still flicker, and there are really many people coming.
As a more well-known temple on Phu Quoc Island, we visit here almost every day. Because I live near this temple, and the incense of this temple is also very strong. You can see a lot of Chinese characters when you walk in. I don’t know if the local Vietnamese friends understand every Chinese meaning, but they are very religious to the Mazu enshrined in this temple.
The temple is located in the northwest corner of Dongdong Town. The temple is dedicated to the Tianhou God, similar to Mazu, who has blessed the people on the waterway for decades. Even today, the locals will come here to bow before going to sea for safety and prosperity. Because the temple is built on a pile of sand and stones and faces the sea on three sides, it can absorb sunlight from all directions. Therefore, in the hearts of the people of Phu Quoc Island, it is a symbol of the perfect harmony of sand, sun, and sea water.
