Niangziguan Pass, the ninth pass under heaven
Niangziguan Pass is located in the northeast of Pingding County, Yangquan City, Shanxi Province, and is known as the 'Gateway to Shanxi' and 'the ninth pass under heaven.' It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. The pass city is backed by the rugged Mianshan Mountain and faces the deep-cutting valleys. The walls and battlements along the mountain waist meander with the terrain, and the entire pass city is flanked by the Great Wall, which undulates with the mountain terrain, serving as a natural barrier between Shanxi and Hebei provinces, and is famous for its majestic pass, perilous paths, beautiful waters, and lofty mountains.
Niangziguan village is built against the mountain, with houses mostly constructed from stone. Each house is over a hundred years old, and the local residents live along the water. The area is rich in groundwater resources, with more than a hundred springs, and the spring water gushes all year round, with water flowing in every household and springs emerging everywhere, creating a picturesque scene of 'people walking on water, water flowing under houses,' as if one were in an ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River.
Main attractions
Niangziguan Waterfall, Pingyang Lake, Niangziguan Village, Heroes Monument, Qiankong Cliff, and others.

A princess once garrisoned the pass
Niangziguan, located in Pingding County, Shanxi Province, is located at the junction of Jin and Ji in the middle section of the Taihang Mountains and is a key cultural relics protection unit. Niangziguan, known as the ninth pass of the Great Wall, is a battleground for the military in all ages. The pass was built by the team stationed by Li Xiuning, the Princess of Pingyang, the daughter of Li Yuan. Princess Pingyang was the first princess of the Tang Dynasty to have a posthumous title after her death. The discipline of Niangzi was strict, the orders were carried out, the people were not disturbed, and she was supported by the masses. The team led by Princess Pingyang was called "Niangzi" by the common people, so the pass where they were stationed was naturally called "Niangziguan".

Niangziguan Waterfall Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
On the land of Shanxi, it is rare to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the waterfalls and the springs and rivers. The groundwater source near the Niangziguan is extremely rich, and there are many springs. The waterfall near the hydropower station is also called the Shuiliandong Waterfall. It is one of the top ten waterfalls in China.
Looking for a quiet trail can go down to the Taohe River Valley, then look up at the Shuiliandong Waterfall, and see the waterfall just like a white practice floating from the sky and landing in the Taohe River Valley. In the process of falling, the waterfall suddenly slammed down, and sometimes it was blocked by the stone. The water and stone were violent, and there were countless waves, scattered everywhere, and thunderous sounds.
The gorge covered by shisha clouds, under the sunlight, formed a colorful neon, across the canyon, beautiful and spectacular. It is no wonder that Guo Moruo came to Shanxi to visit the Niangziguan, and also made a poem to praise the water curtain cave waterfall:
Niangzi Guantou hanging waterfall, flying into the valley and the dragon.
The silver plaque of the earth, stacking Chongshan railroad tracks.
Review the steep and dissolving jasper, and the backflow will see the absorption of Changhong.
