Shahu Lake is located approximately 50 km northwest of Yinchuan in Ningxia Province. The lake is surrounded by stunning desert scenery. Located in the northern part of the visitor site, the lake is known for its clear blue water and reed beds. A boat trip to the southern part of the lake offers a spectacular view over the surrounding sand dunes. The lake offers excellent birdwatching opportunities – it is a natural breeding ground for a number of bird species including the Chinese spot-billed duck, the red-crested pochard, and the gray heron. Shahu Lake is also home to many migrating birds, which visit the lake from April-May and September-October.
