Seriously creepy experience being here. Apparently bodies were buried several layers deep to save space.

This is the most amazing cemetery I have ever seen. So many graves stacked upon one another with the stones leaning each and every direction! Make sure you see the tombstone of Rabbi Low, who is associated with the legend of the Golem. Visitors leave stones and coins along with their prayers at his tombstone.
The Old Jewish Cemetery is located in Prague's Jewish Quarter. The cemetery dates back to the early fifteenth century. There are over ten thousand tombstones, but it is thought that there are about one-hundred thousand buried here. There are thought to be as many as twelve layers of graves in this cemetery, which would explain why the gravestones are so close together.
A must see. Very somber. Visit the museums--very moving. The cemetery is layered 6 to eight stones deep. So shameful for the Jewish history in Prague. There is a charge to take pictures and a charge for the museums. Well worth the price. Vendors line the streets up to the cemetery.
This site was really interesting. Shell out the extra cash for a tour of the cemetery. I was able to follow the American tour in front of me to get all the background info on the graves.
