We took a short detour to visit the Great Wall at Baiyangyu while driving from Beijing across to Qinhuangdao, and it was well worth it. Although a reasonably steep 15-20 min walk to get up to the wall...
Baiyangyu is situated in Dacuizhuang Town, Qi'an City. Great Wall Baiyangyu was built in the early Ming Dynasty and brick-wrapped, thickened and reinforced in the Longqing and Wanli years of the late Ming Dynasty. The city base and the base of watch towers are mostly marble, which is rare in the ten thousand li pass mountain. The Shenwei Tower built on the West Mountain in the Wanli Bingshen year (1596) combines the enemy tower and the watch tower, a unique shape, which is rare along the Great Wall. The Horse Stall (also known as Huangcheng, actually belonging to Yuecheng) echoes with the castle on the edge of the Baiyang River, existing side by side, which only exists in Qian'an in the entire Great Wall.
