American Consulate Former Site Review

The former site of the US Consulate is located at No. 26 Sanming Road, across the sea from the most prosperous Lijiang Road on Xiamen Island. In 1844, the smoke of the Opium War had just dissipated, and the United States government sent Columbus to Xiamen to set up a "transportation post office" next to Tianwei Qiupu on Gulangyu Island and served as consular. In 1865, the office was upgraded to a consulate, and then moved to Sanhe Road (now 26 Sanming Road), where the consulate was rebuilt in 1930.

As soon as you walk out of Sanqiutian Wharf, you can see the former site of the United States Consulate on the right hand side. The building is designed by American engineers and is a brick-mixed structure. The building is mainly in red and white colors. The south and east are set up two entrances and exits respectively. The white corridor columns emphasize the main facade of the building. The walls are triangular for the roof decoration!

From the late nineteenth century, Xiamen was forced to list as a commercial port, and the powers of various countries rushed to find that there was a more beautiful island next to Xiamen - Gulangyu Island, and then forced the Qing government to make Gulangyu a public concession. The US consulate at Sanqiutian Wharf was the building at that time.
