Fort George, located at the mouth of the Mariwan Strait opposite Fort Ross, about 11 miles northeast of Inverness, is a well-preserved 18th-century artillery fortification. Built in 1748, it was originally the base camp of George II's occupying forces in the Highlands, and now one of the barracks has been converted into a museum displaying some artifacts. Walking along the city walls, the sea and the Grand Canyon have a panoramic view.
