Because of the young children, the glacier project can not participate, but choose to stay in this glacier town for a night. One reason is that Matheson Lake, the highest peak in New Zealand, Cook Mountain and its reflection in the lake can be seen with good luck, and the other reason is that you can still choose a hiking route suitable for family travelers to observe the glacier at close range. It was less than 2 p.m. when we arrived at Fox Glacier, and we had plenty of time to visit Matheson Lake. We chose the route around the lake, 4.4 kilometers, taking 2.5 hours. The lake is surrounded by primitive forests and vegetation, covered with layers of lichens and mosses, all kinds of fungi (sky-blue mushrooms, etc.), streams and rivers live in harmony and full of vitality. Although the Cook Mountains were covered with thick clouds, we were lucky to see the town full of golden light at sunset.
