The Australian Museum (AUSTRALIANMUSEUM), located on College Street near Hyde Park in Sydney, is one of the world's recognized top ten exhibitions and the largest natural history museum in Australia. Founded in 1827, it is the first museum in Australia. The museum was originally called the Colonial Pioneers Museum and was renamed in 1929. The collection is extremely rich, many of which are unique.

I loved visiting this museum. There are two galleries dedicated to Aboriginal culture and history, and one to Pacific cultures, which I found really interesting. The museum is strong in natural history as well as cultural, with exhibits on prehistoric megafauna and South Australian diversity. There’s a giant squid on display that spans the vertical height of all four of the museum’s floors, highlighting the sheer scale – and importance – of the world’s deep sea life.

A must if you visit Adelaide. No entry fee to the museum that provides a lot of Australian aboriginal history and culture.Impressive sections about different tribes of Australia and the rest of Oceania.

This downtown fixture has a diverse collection of artifacts ranging from Aboriginal culture to fossils to a kraken. Yes, a kraken. The collections of Pacific Islands are particularly impressive. I've been to more exciting museums but this proved a good place to spend a couple hours and escape the rain; after all, you can't beat the price... It's free.
