Coming out of Fitzroy Gardens, I happened to pass St. Patricks Cathedral, a magnificent church. It was later learned that Melbourne was also the largest and tallest Catholic Church in the southern hemisphere. Unlike the common Victorian style in Australia, the church is a Gothic building. It was built to commemorate the 100-year establishment of the Catholic Church in Victoria. The church was officially opened in October 1897, but it took more than 90 years for the three minarets to be completed until 1939. The steeple is 105.8 meters high and the church is 92.25 meters deep. The church is surrounded by gardens. The bronze statue in front of the main entrance is the bronze statue of Archbishop Daniel Mannix, who was born in Ireland and served as Catholic Archbishop in Melbourne for 46 years. He is the most influential public figure in Australia in the 20th century. St. Patrick's Cathedral is one of the seven Catholic churches recognized by Pope Paul VI as meeting the standards of the Roman cathedral, and is also recognized as one of the most classic Gothic buildings in the world. Painted windows, exquisite woodcarving and stone carving, and organ show the magnificence and solemnity of the Catholic Church. Traffic - "google Fitzroy Gardens, easy to find after arrival
