We enjoy hot springs. Children want to try something else (skating, etc.). It's a little expensive for tourists, but it's worth it. Driving 4-5 hours from the QT provides a place to relax on the way to Christchurch. We weren't prepared, but they let us rent a $5 suit (swimsuit / towel). Storage cabinet works well. The only missing facility is "soap and shampoo in the shower room.
