The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, built in 1932 in Tel Aviv, is one of Israel's major art museums and an international architectural and design cultural center. Opened in 1971, the museum has a central gallery with a comprehensive collection of classical and modern works of art, especially Israeli works of art; a youth hall; a auditorium for regular recitations, indoor concerts and art films; and many exhibition halls for short-term exhibitions. Helena Museum of Modern Art also belongs to this museum. In 2002, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art held a construction design competition to build a new pavilion. In October 2011, the new pavilion, Herta and Paul Emir, was completed. In addition to its collection of exhibits, the museum also holds a series of music and dance performances, films, philosophies and art lectures. Israel's most comprehensive electronic art library and art documentation center provide services to more than 15,000 students and scholars every year. The library contains mainstream art journals and receives the latest catalogues of modern and contemporary art, photography, design and architectural exhibitions in Israel. Tel Aviv Art Museum is the most comprehensive documentation center in the Middle East. [2] Every week, about 1500 children, adolescents and adults of all ages attend courses on painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, video, computer art and printmaking at the Joseph Museum and the Rebecca Meyerhoff Art Education Center.
