The White House is the residence and office of the President of the United States. It is a white neoclassical sandstone building. It was built in 1800. In 1812, after the war between Britain and the United States, the British army occupied Washington City and set fire to buildings including the Capitol Building and the Presidential Palace. Later, in order to cover up the traces of the fire, it was painted white in 1814. President Theodore Roosevelt was officially named the White House in 1902. Part of the White House is open to citizens all over the world within the prescribed time, so it has become a hot spot for tourists.
