The hut is not far from Ephesus, and it is said that St. John brought the Virgin Mary to Ephesus and built a hut nearby for Mary, who lived there until 11 years later. In 1867, the Vatican Church identified the hut as Mary's last residence and named it Mary's hut. It became one of the Roman Catholic holy sites and built a bronze statue of the Virgin Mary.
