The picturesque ancient city of Würzburg is located on the banks of the Main River. Around 1,000 BC, the Main River is a much smaller river than it is now, with several shoals that can be passed on foot. Above these shoals, the Celtic built and settled fort-like houses, which were the prototypes of Würzburg. First recorded in 704 AD. The Church of Mary was established in 706. The Diocese was established in 741. After the 10th century, it was the bishop's city. In 1805 it became the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, Rhine Federation. In 1814 it was merged into the Kingdom of Bay. It was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt after the war. UNESCO has listed it as one of the world cultural heritage sites. The inner city has a wall built in the 14th century and the city has Lund Tower. The railings on both sides of the Main Bridge have statues of great men who created Würzburg. The gate is the gate of Shellenbehr, which was established in 1482. There are also Julius Hospital (1576 ~ 1585) and the University of Würzburg, which was established in 1582.
