Miccosukee Restaurant Review

Miccosukee Restaurant is a nice stop for some delicious, well-proportioned eats. I had the "Indian Taco" that features their specialty bread and it was great! Most of their menu is fairly generic Mexican-American faire, and while the Miccosukee specialty foods are awesome, I wish there were more to choose from. Still, this place is a great stop for lunch or dinner if you're passing by.

In my opinion a native restaurant needs to have some dishes that are reminiscent of the culture or the people. This restaurant only had 3 dishes that were even close, the fry bread, frog legs and gator. The worst part is that at 3 in the afternoon on the day we went they were out of the frog legs and gator!! The rest of the menu is food that can be had in almost any restaurant. I did have the fry bread as a side and it really was very good, if only there were some more native dishes to go with it. What we did have was OK, the chicken was fried well and the salad my Mom had was fresh and abundant. Had this been the meal I stopped for I would've been satisfied. The restaurant itself is open and airy and pretty basic. The service is something that needs to be worked on. Our waitress was more concerned with playing with the baby at the next table than helping us and acted like we were stupid to be asking questions about the food. Then when we were about half way through the meal she apparently left and we had no service until we finally got a young man who was probably a manager of some sort to give us our bill. Needless to say, the tip reflected the quality of service. It was bad enough that I was thinking about returning some day to try the frogs legs, but not now.

We stopped at the Miccosukee Restaurant hoping to get some authentic food from the area after our airboat ride down the street. All of the tables were dirty yet the hostess told us to sit wherever we wanted. I had to come back up and ask her to clear the table for us because they weren't doing it on their own. We waited about 15 minutes before they even took our drink order and another 10 or so before we were able to order food. The server was not friendly at all and the food was terrible. I ordered a chicken wrap and the chicken was extremely dry and overcooked. My husband got a club sandwich that looked like it was pulled from a gas station cooler and served cold. The only good thing we ate were the alligator bites. (Tip: order just the side for $2.99, not the overpriced platter. The side is plenty enough). Afterwards we walked outside and an alligator swam right past us about 2-3 feet away so that was at least one good thing to take away from our experience there.
