My husband and myself were invited out tonight to bid a couple of co-workers that he worked with a fond farewell. We ordered appetizers and then our mail courses and of courses drinks etc. I couldn't believe what you we got for "short ribs" for a starter, we got 3 and them for $16, and how are we going to feed 8 people on that? My hubby and I "shared" the burger, and it was suppose to be 1/2 lb, I think it was that size BEFORE they cooked it because to me, I would of called it a slider. lol Anyway, it had a nice atmosphere but that is about it. Too expensive for my taste. But it was nice meeting my husband's co-workers. The bill was over $300 for 8 people and that included drinks as well.

My husband and I were showing our friend, visiting from California, the neighborhood and wandered into Smith Commons because Ron, the General Manager, who happened to be out front, was so welcoming and friendly to us as we were looking in. We already knew that Smith Commons is very supportive of local, neighborhood businesses as well, which happens to be important to us. Ron showed us around and turned us over into the great hands of Graham who took super care of us with drinks. He was very knowledgeable about the local beers offered and has the most vivid descriptions of each beer as I have ever heard! I requested a sweeter, fruity drink and what he created was perfect for me. Their creativity got us thinking and we ended up having a Beer Float, made with Dolcezza White Chocolate Gelato, which is seasonally and locally made. It was delicious! So we were very well taken care of and enjoyed our drinks very much on the deck out back. It was a nice day so the open-air environment was very pleasant. Thank you, Ron and Graham!

We ate here before going to see a play and so it was early and the restaurant was fairly empty, but it was a pleasant atmosphere in any case, the waitress was friendly and efficient, and the food was imaginative (gingerbread dusted scallops) and delicious. My duck breast was excellent, as was the large charcuterie plate we started with. A great place in an optimistic part of the new DC. And you can get there from Union Station by the streetcar, which is currently free!
