Booked a table via the website for the same evening. On arriving we were advised that although they had received our booking the kitchen could not accommodate. It seems quite amateur for the calibre of this place to not be able to manage bookings. Given that we had made the journey into town specifically, no consideration was given to the inconvenience. We did however receive a very warm welcome and a great meal at Giovannis further up Park Place.

    4/5Excellent

My husband and I had the tasting menu with matched Icon wines - it was splendid. The stand-out dish for me was the salt marsh lamb with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, pea puree and a jus. Every mouthful was just stunning. It's not the cheapest restaurant but I believe the quality of the food justified the price. I would recommend this place for those who love good food. The reason for not giving a 5 star rating is that I reserve those for only the most outstanding places and although the food was outstanding, the whole experience wasn't. The decor of the restaurant needs serious updating. It's like an old gentleman's club but it's tired, not just old fashioned. The glasses needed an extra polish - in fact one was not really clean and another had water spots on it. I know that's being picky, but to me those finer points are important when you are spending 300 quid for dinner for two. The maitre d' is probably not to everyone's taste - occasionally almost verging on rude but quite funny. He seemed as if he was reeling off a learnt script with the course descriptions, however, rather than genuinely understanding what he was saying. The same too of the sommelier who is very young - pleasant but perhaps without that air of authority you would expect. Having said that, it was a wonderful *food* experience and I cannot fault them on the food itself - delightful, well-presented, with just the right amount. I will remember the evening - and for the right reasons: the food.

We have visited on a number of occasions and were looking forward to an overdue return visit. On arrival we had a wine tasting which was fine but on asking for a cocktail at the bar (which they had up on the wall as cocktail of the week), I was told they no longer did it. We moved in to the dining room and were told there was a delay due to people's dietary requirements - they should have been prepared for this and I didn't feel it was necessary to "blame" the customers. There seemed to be lots of new staff who were a bit nervous! No introduction to dishes/wines, much smaller portions and a lack of atmosphere in comparison to previous visits. It didn't feel like the staff were coping very well. Several people left before the end due to it taking so long..... We had a nice catch up with friends but won't be returning for now

Place was empty on Father day when we arrived for lunch (13.30) waited 5 mins t order a drink in an empty var) when we did, no Montrachet available , asked the " Sommelier” to suggest an alternative reply’ Not sure I am new here! So seem a Sommelier in Cardif is not quite the same as the rest of the world. If that was not bad enough the waiter come manager was offhand bordered on rude, as the heading says, the food was on the whole very good if not exceptional, that was left to the vill, which was by any standards huge, Frankly if you think sitting under a 52 inch LG TV on the wall dining room is classy, then you will love it, we however wont be back any time soon.
