About Church of Hallgrímur

Halgrims Cathedral is located on the hills of Reykjavik’s city centre, named after the famous Icelandic writer Halgrims, to commemorate his great contribution to Icelandic literature. Built in 1930, the church is an iconic building in Reykjavik. The statue of Sigmund in front of the church was built to commemorate the independence of Iceland's father, Sigzon.

Out of Harpa Concert Hall, across the street to the south, not far up the hill is the famous Hal Grimms Cathedral. It is the tallest building in Reykjavock. Its appearance and uniqueness completely overturn the traditional church design and make it unique. Like a launch shuttle or a giant pipe organ, the architect's design concept comes from the cylindrical basalt. The interior of the church is simple and solemn. The most eye-catching is a giant German organ, 15 meters high and 25 tons heavy, with 5,275 sound tubes. I don't know how it feels to play. Inside, there is an elevator to the top of 75 meters, overlooking the entire Reykjavik. To get into the church, you have to buy 800 kroner to get on the observation deck by elevator. On the upper floor, only a white clock with black hands was seen hanging on the wall. From this floor, you need to walk up the stairs to the top floor. The top floor is surrounded by rectangular narrow holes, 360 degrees to view the Reykjavik landscape in an all-round way. Looking out of the window hole, the concert hall under your eyes, the ships parked at the wharf, the oil tanks, Lake Tonin, the Pearl Tower hills and so on are clearly visible. The mountains are surrounded in the distance, the sea level rises a rainbow, and the sunset hangs in the sky. The whole picture plays a concerto of Reykjavik in the sunset.

Halgrims Church is located on a hill in the center of Reykjavik. It is named after the famous Icelandic writer Halgrims. It commemorates his great contribution to Icelandic literature. The church, built in 1930, is a landmark building in Reykjavik. The Sigson statue in front of the church was built in memory of Leifur Eiriksson, the father of Iceland's independence. Designed by Gudjon Samuelsson, a renowned Icelandic architect, the church began to lay its foundations in 1940. It took almost half a century to complete the church because it was funded by the church and donated by its followers. The church has a novel design, which is a pipe organ structure. The main hall is over 30 meters high and can accommodate 1200 people. The main tower is 72 meters high and can take an elevator to the top floor to overlook the whole capital. The shape of the lava left over from Iceland's volcanic eruption inspired his creation. He used local creative materials and local building materials to design a church with innovative coordinates and Icelandic national style.

This is the largest church in Iceland. It is also known as the Church of Normal Distribution because of its shape. Its unique pipe organ shape is impressive and unforgettable. You can take the elevator to climb the tower and overlook the whole Reykjavik. It is very spectacular and worth visiting.

It's worth visiting. The church has Icelandic characteristics. It looks like black lava. It can also take an elevator upstairs to overlook the whole Reykjavik scene. Sit in the church and calm down. You can also buy that postcard and other small souvenirs.

This church is very special in design, with a concise appearance, simple and solemn interior, clear and dignified Iceland. What is more unforgettable is that I met my friends in Hong Kong here.

The normal distribution Cathedral in the legend of Hal Grimms Cathedral actually feels more like a Lego building block encountering the first snowstorm in life in front of the church. As a southerner, I'm so happy that it exploded. It's obviously a natural disaster, Haha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

It looks like a pipe organ, and its interior is generally decorated. It may be because it is a Protestant church, and it is located in the center of the city.

It's also one of the protagonists in my hand-painted travel account and one of the famous landmarks in Reykjavik, Iceland "Hal Grims Cathedral". It's also the largest church in Iceland. The whole building clearly knows that it's Icelandic because the design concept of the building is derived from the unique basalt shape here. If time is enough, it's recommended to go to the tower. The whole city of Reykjavik is a panoramic view. After all, this is the highest point of the whole city. When you take the elevator to the top, the top of the pipe organ church is not sealed. It is ventilated on all sides and overlooks the whole city near the window. It happens to meet a very distinctive organ performance. It's worth sitting down and enjoying it quietly.
