Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a German town in northern Bavaria known for its medieval architecture. Half-timbered houses line the cobblestone lanes of its old town. The town walls include many preserved gate houses and towers, plus a covered walkway on top. St. Jakob’s Church houses an intricate, late Gothic altarpiece by woodcarver Tilman Riemenschneider. The medieval Town Hall has a tower with panoramic views. The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" is German for "Red castle above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words rot (red) and burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red color of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. The name may also refer to the process of retting ("rotten" in German) flax for linen production. The city was most likely inhabited by Celts before the 1st-century C.E.
In 950, the weir system in today's castle garden was constructed by the Count of Comburg-Rothenburg.
In 1070, the counts of Comburg-Rothenburg, who also owned the village of Gebsattel, built Rothenburg castle on the mountain top high above the River Tauber.
The counts of the Comburg-Rothenburg dynasty died out in 1116. The last count, Count Heinrich, Emperor Heinrich V appointed instead his nephew Konrad von Hohenstaufen as the successor to the Comburg-Rothenburg properties.
In 1142, Konrad von Hohenstaufen, who became Konrad III (1138–52), the self-styled King of the Romans, traded a part of the monastery of Neumünster in Würzburg above the village Detwang and built the Stauffer-Castle Rothenburg on this cheaper land. He held court there and appointed officials called 'reeves' to act as caretakers.

Germany actually has a fairy tale town that is sweeter than chocolate
walked around Germany, the most favorite is Rothenburg, this small town is so beautiful. Rothenburg is the essence of the German medieval town. It has not been destroyed by the war, and it has been repaired in the last 20 years. Its well-preserved old town recreates the medieval style.
1 Rothenburg is a relatively pure tourist city. Beyond the attractions, the city is dominated by souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and hotels. The Old Town is small and can be reached on foot from all attractions.
If you want to enjoy a quiet town, it is best to stay in the city for one night, so that you can carefully look at this ancient and beautiful town in the early morning and evening when a large number of tourists do not appear.
2 One of the iconic landscapes in the city of Rothenburg, at the southern end of the old town, the stone road is "Y" shaped, with beautiful traditional wooden frame houses on both sides and a small fountain. The
3 clock tower platform on the market square can be climbed up to see the panoramic view of the town. Because it is a medieval building, the stairs are very narrow and there is a steep road.
Tickets: 2 Euros (tickets are bought at the top of the tower)
4Wrzburg to Rothenburg for more than an hour by train, you have to take a special line to get there.

Christmas to New Year's Day, Germany is also a good place to go to the Christmas market in Rothenburg. This Christmas market is a rare Christmas market in Germany, and the Christmas decorations and art that are sold are unimaginable. Even when I saw this literary shop, people often screamed. The little things in the market are beautiful but very expensive, and a small bell hanging on the Christmas tree costs 25 euros. What's more, the goods inside are actually divided into series. There are ceramic reindeer series, snowman series with silver powder, and puppet series made of iron. Its really hard to choose. Repeatedly entangled and limited budget, I really like it but can't buy it.
Germany, it was really a good weather, unexpectedly sunny, sunny and sunny. The four of us are going to find a shade to start our picnic. When I walked to the city wall, I was shocked by the quaint temperament here. The scenery and temperament of the city wall is different from the towns that have just passed. One is colorful and fresh, and the other is historical and ancient. We found a big tree, laid out the tablecloth, and started our happy picnic. I drank my favorite cola and ate sandwiches and apple cakes made in the morning. This kind of comfortable life makes me want to live here.
Traveling to South Germany, there is a famous tour route, which is the road to fairy tales. Rothenburg on the high hills on the eastern bank of the Tauber River, a tributary to the south of the Rhine, is the jewel of this road. Most towns in Germany have been baptized by war. Rothenburg is no exception. The strong Rothenburg people used a watt and a stone to completely rebuild the town as it was, a nirvana. Through the gates of the castle, every lane here leads to the market square, looking at the window sills filled with flowers, the blue stone road, the slow carriage, and the towers and church spires that you can see at random. People feel that time has reversed and they have stunned their youth.

Rudesheim Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Lying here is a great place to rest, and at the same time, the Viking fattening journey is in full swing.
Not only take your fat, but also eat and teach along the way, passing Koblenz, you start the Rdesheim classic coffee teaching, before running 10 kilometers a day, learned a lot of recipes.
Ruedesheim, the hometown of Riesling, has been planted here by the Romans since ancient Roman times. The vineyards in the mountains attract tourists from all over the world, so there are so many towns on the Rhine, Rdes. Heim is still the most prominent one. Connected to the small train, like the favorite little train of the amusement park children, it will carry us to the most famous thrush bird lane here, the rustic style cottage, each balcony is decorated with flowers, it feels like it is in the movie. Its so obsessive, the girls heart bursts, the throat lane in the town, as the name implies, the narrow and narrow narrow alley, like the human throat, but there are a lot of tourists flowing, bustling, filling the town with a lot of energy. It may be more heated here after the night, singing and laughing, music and wine, destined to stay up all night.
The small German town of Rdesheim is situated on a hillside with dense forests on the banks of the Rhine. It is known as the wine town and is the famous Riesling wine region.
We took a small train to visit Rdesheim, the whole small town is exquisite and bright, surrounded by wine and music, people are lazy and leisurely scattered in the streets and lanes, the European style of enjoyable life is vividly displayed here. Its fascinating!
The small towns of Bingen and Rüdesheim on the Rhine River
If you have 2-3 days of free time in Frankfurt, don't miss the Rhine Valley, which is just over an hour's train ride away. The castles and vineyards on the hills, the two beautiful towns on both sides of the river, the Warbler Lane and the local specialty Riesling wine, will definitely make you feel worthwhile. The old town hall is just located next to the new town hall.
You may also go up the tower on the viewing platform for a fee and also tour the hall. Be sure to be there early and book a spot for the clock performance as it gets crowded really fast.
