This exhibit is absolutely amazing. It’s free and located in Old Town. It is a guided tour and the hosts are in costumes of that time period. The set up is unique- you are seated in an auditorium and watch a great movie about the battalion- how it came to be, the struggles they went through during the longest march by any battalion in the Mexican American war. They marched from just short of Council Bluffs, Iowa to San Diego. Then you are taken into rooms where you experience different phases of the journey ending with seeing artifacts from the battalion to having a black and white photo, then you can pan for gold and go to an observation tower and see all of Old Town. It is well worth the time spent!

The Mormon camp historical site is a very important thing, really a very good place to visit, the tourists here are also many kinds of diverse, like to come here to play, foreign tourists are also very simple.
This free tour is great for children, but adults can learn something from it. One of my wife's ancestors was involved in the journey and she especially liked the little pavilion that lets people find details about each participant's biography. After this we walked briefly to the old town, enjoyed a great Mexican dinner and used the coupons we got from the historic site. Recommended!
Wow, I expect another boring museum to visit, but it's great. This is a missionary-guided walking experience, with a pleasant actor video, walking experience in Mormon Battalion, very exciting and pleasant, suitable for all ages and religious backgrounds. In addition, you can get a free photo of your family, as a souvenir, and pot (fool) gold!
It's 1846, and our nation is a war with Mexico. President James Polk, democrat from Tennessee appeals to the leader of the Mormons, Brigham Young, to form five companies of one-hundred men each, to fight the Mexican Army in the southwest part of what is currently the USA. Brigham Young gives his blessings, and the Mormon Battalion begins it's 2 thousand mile trek to San Diego (they broke camp at the Mission de Francia in Oceanside and stayed for a month). This battalion is never tested in battle, but makes a big contribution building over 20 wells, the Courthouse, and teaching the locals how to make bricks in San Diego.
