I wanted sushi while on holidays in SF and decided to try this place. At the beginning I had some trouble finding it as if you go on 1815 Market St. you find another place called Destino. Next to the right (number 1817) you find another Japanese restaurant and finally, further to the right, you find Sushi Zone, which is actually located at the end of Pearl St. The restaurant is very small, around 15 seats (2 4-seater tables and the rest at the bar). They do not accept reservations which, in my view, is a positive as I do not mind queuing a bit (around 1 hour) as opposed to not eating there at all (while on holidays I decide what to eat at the very last minute). A positive of their queuing system is that you leave your name I need a whiteboard and then you can go somewhere else to have a drink while waiting, you do not have to be in the queue at the risk of losing your turn. The place is pretty basic, the decor is simple, probably not a place I would have stopped in without reading the positive reviews and seeing people queuing outside. The food is just amazing! Not an endless list of fish types but some very interesting ones (my favourite was the seared albacore, never found anywhere else) and also the classic ones (e.g salmon, tuna) were so tender that they just melted in your mouth. The list of maki is very interesting as it offers around 20/30 variations, some never seen before. Around 10 types of nigiri and few sashimi options. The drinks list is quite small, few types of sake, one plum wine and some beers. I would have liked a longer list of sakes. The service is very kind and both the lady serving (Hideko, who we found out later speaks Italian) and the two guys behind the bar, are very nice. The service is quite slow but I like having a relaxed dinner experience so this is a plus for me (they prepare the food ordered by each party in a sequential way so, if the customers before you order a lot of food, you will have to wait a while for their order to be comple
