This museum is in wonderful historic building, that is worth checking out. It also has a nice gift shop with lots of California items and souvenirs. But, the museum itself is quite small, with just one exhibition at a time. It took about ten minutes to see the current exhibition. Had the museum been free, or a dollar or two, this would have been fine. But charging a $10 admission fee for such a small museum, is excessive and there are far better attractions all over the city to visit instead.

The California Historical Society is not a popular choice for visitors to San Francisco, but it is worth a visit. The library was not open when we came, but the exhibition area is open and a photography exhibition related to the California Railway is on display for a limited time. It is not far from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and can be visited together.
It looks a very unremarkable place, but it's interesting inside.
Great gallery, you can see a lot of favorite works.
California’s history is full of legends and worth serious study.
