The Guadalquivir River is the fifth longest river in Spain and the longest in Andalusia. Its name is derived from the Arabic al-wad al-kabir, which means "big river". Before the Arab conquest, the river was named Baetis, and the Roman province of Baetica in Spain was named after this river.
