What people are saying:

To be honest, I'm here for Takara Kashiwabara. As a 19-year-old fan of Kassy, I always have to come to the pilgrimage filming location of "Love Letter"! My husband accompanies me to Funamizaka to take a photo. After leaving Otaru Station, just follow the main force! Turning straight ahead, you will reach the Otaru Canal~ Walking along the river all the way, all kinds of must-see attractions, food, and shopping shops are all together. There are so many people on the Otaru Canal! There are also many tour groups. You must choose an angle to take pictures, otherwise everyone... I saw so many cute snowmen along the way and couldn't help but take a group photo~ After lunch, go to Funaban! It’s not far from Otaru Station, so we will return to Sapporo after checking in. What is Rokkatei? I don’t like to eat it. When I go to the store, I don’t even have the desire to buy it. Japanese desserts really vary from person to person. I like letao! There are leTAO shops everywhere, just enter one of them. You can only eat strawberry rolls, so delicious! There is also delicious ice cream~ so satisfying! The seafood dong is so fresh. But the day I went there, I had a bad appetite. I could only watch my husband eat it... Otaru was colder than Sapporo, and the snow was thicker. Remember to wear snow claws, otherwise you will fall, especially near the Otaru Canal. Funamizaka has a lot of people taking pictures, most of them are Chinese and Korean. I also encountered low-quality, four girls holding hands in the middle of the road to take pictures, regardless of the local car driving, but also drunk... Otaru is a tourist city, souvenirs are not recommended, but music boxes are acceptable.

Nothing much to see in the day.

Its a short cruise and probably because we took the cruise in the day the canal didn't seem very interesting. Even though there isn't much to see but the history of Otaru Canal is interesting. We mana...

    Decent cruise

The cruise is not overwhelming, but ok. It cruises along the canal, with some historical information provided. Some parts are quite pretty. It was drizzling then, so that dampened it a bit.

    A bit overrated. Need re-vamp

Feels like someone in the city hall decided that they need to sell the canal with pretty captains and young, strong young rickshaw guys. Did he/she think about spending money to beautify the place? No...

I had to persuade my brothers and boyfriend to go along but they are glad they went. Very interesting information given about the canal. It was a nice sunny day with a chill in the air, not to worry b...

Not for English speakers or rainy days

We went on this 5 pm sunset canal cruise as part of a day trip. We were the only non Asian persons on the boat and we were not given a head set to listen to the continuous 40 minute commentary in Engl...

Additional Information

Introduction

The Otaru Canal warehouse group refers to the warehouse complex on one side of the Otaru Canal. It used to be a cargo warehouse for shipping, and today it has been transformed into a street with a European style. Here you can not only take beautiful retro photos, but also enjoy authentic food and buy local souvenirs. These warehouses, restaurants and other small shops that have been converted from warehouses, because of the proximity to the sea, in the background of the sea and sky, the photos taken also have a nostalgic style.
