Photos of Lama Palace

The Laoma Palace is located at the head of Waima Road, also known as Tianhou Palace. It and the Guandi Temple next door are the early buildings before Shantou opened its port. The Laoma Palace was built in the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty and reopened in 1992. In the beginning, this was a beach on the coast. Local ships and influxes would pay their respects here when they went to sea. They would pack a little incense ash and carry them with them to show their nostalgia for their hometown; overseas influxes would always come here to pay homage when they returned to their hometowns. To susten the memory of the ancestors. The stone reliefs on the door walls of the temple and the wood carvings on the beams and columns have high aesthetic value. In particular, a pair of openwork Panlong Pillars carved from a single block of stone, with statues of the Eight Immortals, are of superb craftsmanship and can only be seen in imperial palaces and Confucian temples. The art of inlaying porcelain on the roof of the temple is a unique craft in Chaoshan area. Various patterns are made of fired colored ceramic pieces, which are both beautiful and resistant to wind and rain erosion.
